Background
The Colchester to Clacton infrastructure renewal project covered the Line from Marks Tey to Walton–on–the–Naze, including the branch line to Colchester Town and a portion of the branch line to Clacton. The modern signalling system provided replaced the signalling system that was more than forty years old and therefore provides a more reliable/safer service for the passengers and freight services.
In order for the renewal to proceed a number of Signalling stages had to be designed and facilitated. These stages had to be carefully constructed in order to maintain the operational functionality of the route.
The Colchester to Clacton infrastructure renewal project successfully commissioned stage 4, the final main stage of its works between Marks Tey and Ardleigh over the August Bank Holiday 2009.
The entire route covered by the project is now fully controlled from the new Colchester MCS and Liverpool Street IECC and brings together two and a half years of hard work and dedication from the project team.
All 6 interlockings have now been successfully commissioned from the MCS workstations at Colchester signal box. A further stage, the recontrol of Ardleigh Manningtree was successfully commissioned in January 2011.
