Steve McLaren - Managing Director
Steve originally graduated as a commercial apprentice in the Medical Imaging business working for Thorn-EMI. He remained in this business in Senior Purchasing and Manufacturing roles working for G.E. Medical and Picker International until 1988.Steve then moved into the Railway Signalling business in 1988 working for GEC-General Signals who subsequently became ALSTOM. For the past 8 years he has held various Global Vice President roles in Sourcing, Supply Chain and Product Development.Having been in the signalling business for the past 20 years Steve has gained extensive knowledge in both Projects and Products. |

Steve Simmonds - Operations Director
Steve is an Electrical Engineer with over 20 years Railway experience of multi-discipline and signalling contracting. Hejoined SSL in December 2007 and brings a large amount of senior management experience in the signalling field.
Prior to joining the railway industry he worked for 10 years in steel manufacturing, starting in 1979 as an apprentice electrican.
Steve was appointed to the position of Operations Director in July 2009. |

William Wilson - Business Development Director
William joined Alstom Transport in 2004 as the Operations Director and Site Leader running Transport Information Solutions. He held the role of Commercial Director at the inception of the joint venture company in April 2007 before being appointed Business Development Director in October 2008.
Originally a graduate in Building Technology and Management, his career started in the British Army, before moving to technical sales of mooring systems for offshore oil and gas. Following this, William joined GE in the Aircraft Engines business, becoming Managing Director of GE Transportation Systems in 2001.

Billy Unadkat - Finance Director
Graduate and Fellow Chartered Certified Accountant, Billy joined SSL in March 2010. Having originally qualified in the rail industry with what now is Bombardier; where he was responsible for the finance of London Underground & C2C rail fleet service contracts.
Subsequently for 10 years he has been Finance Director, within Manufacturing, FMCG & Construction Technology sectors, while leading financial strategic management in the UK, US & EMEA regions.

Ian Bridges - Engineering Director
Ian joined Balfour Beatty Rail in 1996, transferring from British Rail following its privatisation. His 32 year career in the railway industry has been focussed within the fields of signalling, telecommunications and the supply of technology solutions to the industry.
His experience in design, testing and management enabled Ian to become the role of Technical Head of the signalling & telecommunications disciplines, a position he held from 2002 until 2007. Ian is a Chartered Engineer, a member of the European Federation of National Engineering Associations, Eur Ing, a Fellow of the IRSE and the IET and possesses a Masters degree in Rail Systems Engineering.
Ian joined Signalling Solutions as the Engineering Director at its inception in October 2007.

James Thorley - HR Director
James is MCIPD qualified and joined Alstom Transport in 2005 as HR Director, the role he will continue to perform within Signalling Solutions. He has a wealth of experience, having spent over 22 years working within the HR profession in a number of organisations including Fiskars, Kautex and Allied Steel & Wire. Prior to joining Alstom, James spent nearly 2 years as HR Business Partner (East London) with Job Centre Plus, looking after a team of 34 in the delivery of training and HR services to 2,000 employees.

Simon Stockwell - SHEQ Director
A graduate Civil Engineer, Simon joined Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering in 1989 as Project Manager, where he was responsible for all railway disciplines on a contract to extend the Docklands Light Railway. Since the formation of Balfour Beatty Rail Projects in 1996, Simon has worked solely on railway contracts and has been involved in the project management of a number of resignalling schemes including Warrington, Dartford, Leeds and Willesden. He was appointed the General Manager of company's Signalling Unit in 2004.

Mike Stevens - Business Improvement Director
With formal training in Mechanical Engineering, Instrumentation and Control systems, Mike’s career has focussed on project-centred businesses. With over 25 years experience in Project Management, he has successfully delivered schemes employing a wide range of technologies with values from below £1m to over £60m.
Since joining Alstom in 1991, Mike has been involved with a number of projects, as well as working in product development, marketing and tendering. Mike is a Member of the Association for Project Management and an Associate Member of the IRSE.
